I have been trying to exercise more this year. (It is not hard to too when you haven't exercising much at all -- like once a month). Today I walked/ran for the first time in a few weeks. I haven't been able to because I did something to my knee the last time that I did. The doctor put me in a knee brace and limited activity for a few weeks. I wore the knee brace today and made the fastest pace mile yet. When I started several weeks ago it took me just over 18 minutes to go 1 mile. Today I went 1 mile in 15 minutes and 20 seconds. While it is nothing that will shatter record books or impress anyone, it taught me a valuable lesson.
Yes, there are many who can run farther and faster than me. There are many that can run 2 or 3 miles in the time that it took me to run 1. We often get discouraged because we see someone else doing better than we are at different things. The thing that we need to remember though is that God has not called us to be anyone else but who we are. God loves us just as we are (though He is not satisfied to leave us just as we are -- He always wants us to be growing and learning to be more like Him.). Just as we are -- not because we are someone else. Instead of looking around at what others are doing, we need to evaluate ourselves and see what we are doing (or are not doing). We only see our progress when we look at what we have done, not what others have done. Celebrate your progress, even if it is small -- progress is progress. I am also struck by the truth that if you are progressing you are regressing. This lesson is applicable in all areas of our life.
Celebrate the small things and keep moving forward!
